A lot of my female friends ask me why men dump women. I decided that this was actually quite an interesting question. You’ll hear other women complain a lot about all the reasons whey they suddenly find themselves single. But I decided to dig a little deeper and get the answer straight from the horse’s mouth, so to speak. I went and asked Brian, one of my very close male friends, who I can trust to be brutally honest with me.

Here are his top three reasons why men dump women. I think you’ll find these very interesting.

You Are Too Needy — Brian told me that a lot of the women he has dated are just too needy. They can’t stand being apart from their boyfriend for even a split second. They want to go grocery shopping with him, go to the ATM with him, and go to the laundromat with him. It seems like they never give him a moment of free time. Brian says that one of the main reasons why men dump women is because we don’t give our guys enough space.

You have to understand that when a man says he needs space, it means something completely different than when a woman says she needs space. Men are very career- and goal-oriented and sometimes need time alone or with their guy friends to get things done. If you think back to caveman days, this is akin to him going out to hunt for food. Men just have a natural need to occasionally be alone or with other men, so don’t be clingy and give him the space he needs every once in a while. It really isn’t anything to worry about, and you’ll find that he comes back to you later feeling recharged and excited to be with you.

The Man Is Not As Committed As You — Us women often find ourselves thinking about walking down the wedding aisle and planning the names of our 2.5 kids much sooner than men. Another one of Brian’s reasons why men dump women is that they rush into bringing up these subjects with their boyfriends too soon. When you do this, you may frighten him off. Is he just immature and afraid of commitment? Maybe. But more likely he just doesn’t feel that your relationship has a strong enough foundation to justify moving to “that level” just yet. When do you bring it up then? This really depends on the relationship and what the two of you have been through together.

You Don’t Have Your Own Aspirations — If everything in your life revolves around your man, then you will probably find him quickly losing interest in you. Brian told me about a rather creepy experience he had with one of his ex-girlfriends. She told him about a dream she had and said, “I dreamed that the two of us melted together into one person and I never had to do anything or think for myself again. It was wonderful.” No surprise they’re not together any more.

That is an extreme example, but seriously ladies, guys still want us to be independent and interesting. You are just going to bore your man into breaking up with you if all you do is go shopping at Walmart and watch television. Men like women that have their own goals and aspirations. Work for that promotion at the office. Write that novel you have always wanted to write. Dust off those paint brushes and create your new masterpiece. Don’t just stagnate and let your mind atrophy. One of my goals, for example, was putting up this website.
